The FPC Praise Band is a vital part of the worship at Logan Presbyterian Church. They help lead worship on the first and third Sunday of each month at the 9 a.m. informal worship service in Bruner Hall. The service begins with the singing of contemporary praise songs, led by the band. This service is particularly suited to families with children and youth because of its contemporary music and relaxed ambiance.
In 2006 when Al Hammond was interim pastor, a group of musicians met to form the first Praise Band. Members of that first band were Dee Logterman, keyboard, Colleen Gordin, bass guitar, Dawn Drost, vocals, Dee Taylor, guitar, and Riley Hepworth, guitar. They started a Saturday evening service which continued for about a year.
Pastor Paul Heins, who plays the guitar, joined the band when he arrived in 2007. The worship committee eventually decided to have the Praise Band play twice a month at the 9 a.m. Sunday service. Dee Logterman, Dee Taylor and Riley Hepworth have left the band, but Christine Hult now plays the keyboard and Nathan Hult plays drums. They are also frequently joined by additional musicians, including Isabella Muffoletto and Beth Hunemiller, vocals, and Bess Dennison, flute.
