On May 6, approximately 35 people convened for the initial organizational meeting of our congregation’s environmental ministry. The Session has approved this new ministry initiative and Pastor Paul has been studying environmental ministry as part of his continuing pastoral education. Those who feel a calling to share in our responsibility as stewards of God’s wonderful and beautiful creation are invited to participate in any of the following initiatives:
One initiative involves joining with many other churches in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in being an “Earth Care Congregation.” There are several steps to be accomplished before obtaining the designation of Earth Care Congregation. We will be called upon to adhere to certain standards and accomplish certain goals. The four categories for action are worship, education, facilities, and outreach. Persons who attended the initial meeting were invited to sign up for one of the groups responsible for each of these areas. It’s not too late to sign up.
Another initiative involves affiliating with Utah Interfaith Power & Light, an educational and outreach organization which has several other participating churches in Cache Valley. We will also host the local Bioneer’s annual conference at our church this fall on October 26 & 27. Bioneers is a non-profit educational organization that highlights breakthrough solutions for restoring people and planet. The next environmental ministry meeting will be held t 12:30 p.m. June 3 in Westminster Hall. A light lunch will be served.
For more information or to indicate your willingness to be involved, please feel free to contact the church office at 752-0871.
